Soulcraft™ Australia & New Zealand offers programs and training in partnership with the Animas Valley Institute (AVI) based in Colorado, USA.
Founded by Bill Plotkin in 1980, the Animas Valley Institute has created and continues to evolve a contemporary Western, nature-based approach to the journey of soul initiation, drawing inspiration from modern depth psychology, nature-based cultures, wilderness rites of passage and the poetic tradition - to our knowledge, the first of its kind.
Soulcraft Australia & New Zealand takes its name from Bill Plotkin's seminal work: Soulcraft – Crossing into the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche.
You are invited to join one of our multi-day immersions into the wilds of nature and psyche for the purpose of retrieving the unique, mysterious identity hidden in the soul-waters of each life.
Soulcraft Australia & New Zealand offers a range of programs which support connection with nature and soul. Go to our Upcoming Programs page for details of our 2020 offerings.
Envisioning a new world....beyond 2020
As this year of wonders draws to an end, we are listening closely to what might emerge from this dark and fertile period...from our President, David Emery
This year, along with the rest of the world, Soulcraft Australia & New Zealand has faced a different and very challenging world. Firstly the extensive bushfires last summer posed significant considerations for venue selection, and risk and safety procedures. We have had to factor in measures to ensure the safety of participants when we take them into remote bushland areas. Then secondly, as the March programs were underway, Covid 19 became a real threat and we were only just able to complete the programs after implementing additional hygiene and some social distancing practices. The US guides could not conduct the Wild Mind Intensive planned for New Zealand as NZ had by then imposed a 14-day quarantine for any visitors. They were just able to change their flights and return to the US before lockdowns and flight cancellations became a reality.
There is little likelihood of face-to-face programs going forward into 2021. US guides are unlikely to be able to travel here for some time, so we have been investigating online programs. We have been negotiating with AVI to offer online programs at times that can be easily accessed by participants in Australia and New Zealand. A US Guide, Doug Van Houten has indicated he will guide a Soulcentric Dreamwork program for us in January 2021 and possibly a Wild Mind Intensive.
From January 2021 we are scheduling monthly Council gatherings on Zoom, primarily to keep our community engaged and connected. We will also investigate other offerings and the possibility of local small groups with face-to-face activities.
We continue to look towards the deepening of our nature-based soul practices in whatever ways are possible in these difficult times, and we look forward to gathering together again with guides for wilderness programs as soon as this is feasible.
Wildly hopeful . . .
